The report dated October 5, 2012 of the National Institute of Statistics and Democracy of Burkina assesses the youth of Burkina population. The outcomes of this great demographic survey has showed that one Burkina citizen out of 2 is below 15 years old. This situation brings about several challenges to be met by Burkina State. Indeed, youth stage is a unique and important period in life as it has permanent and long-term effects in the whole life.
In addition to these, there is unemployment, inadequate education, the lack of specialized supporting structures, the growing misunderstanding between this youth and the family framework or even the entire society that makes them vulnerable to scourges such as prostitution, alcohol, drugs, juvenile delinquency ... These problems still remain despite the several efforts undertaken by the State and the various stakeholders to address them. In addition to the several missions it has,
A study led 23 Christian leaders involved in ministries with young people in Africa showed that youth are facing sex problems before marriage, pornography, rape, psychological abuse, abortion, parental divorce, alcoholism, drugs and suicide. Therefore, these leaders consider that it is urgent to take care of these young teenagers and adults who are responsible for them.
However, it is worth noticing that both psychological and physical changes experienced by the teenager present real problems and challenges. Young people nowadays are facing several situations that would have been difficult to bear and overcome by their current parents and grand-parents.
the Church must inevitably be a reference and place of training of this youth. It must sow high spiritual values within the heart of the youth and must help them through good education and multiform support. However, according to surveys and experience, Christian youth also undergo these problems.
Thus, many young Christians having no place to bloom and entertain themselves outside of the Church get involved in practices that do not reflect the glory of our God. The Apostle Paul in the book of Romans said: “do not to conform yourselves to the standards of this world but be let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind ... (Romans 12: 2)”. How this youth can distinguish themselves from this world, while conducting conscious awakening and blooming activities?
